2009/10
Yani in the role of music director will take a choir of 220 people to the South of India Jan 2010.
The choir will be performing all original Australian compositions in front of delegates from around the world.
2006-9
Yani continues to direct her two community choirs, ‘ROAR’ and ‘Tongues of Fire’ as well as conducting workshops and training students through her TRIumph Vocal Coaching classes. Naturally, she also continues to her solo performances.
2009

Yani was asked to be the Music director of The Transformers permanent ongoing Brisbane choir developed by Reclink who started the Choir of Hard Knocks in Melbourne The choir provides musical, performing and other opportunities  for people who are experiencing disadvantage. The choir rehearses 40 weeks a year and will launch itself in May 2009 and kick off a its performance season in the second half of the year, starting with 2 concerts at city hall, one for Homeless Connect and a combined concert with the Southern Cross Voices

2008

Yani was invited to be director of The Into Africa choir for The Into Africa day as part of Brisbane Festival  Led a 200 strong African and non African choir, collecting songs from the Brisbane African community and from various African countries. Rehearsed for a 10 week period and performed an exciting 1 hour set Aug 2 for the close of the Festival

2008

Community Choir Tongues of Fire was among just 16 chosen from 200 choirs around Australia to compete in Channel 7's Battle of the Choirs.

2005

Toured the US with a 44-piece choir and Gospel music, writer, singer, conductor, arranger and aficionado/historian Tony Backhouse. She was also chosen to be the fill in conductor on the tour.

2004
Established second Community Choir 'ROAR'. Formed 8 piece vocal Supergroup 'A Love Supreme' Continued working as Artsworker with Access Arts, in 'Sound Circles'… creatively facilitating songwriters, singers and musicians with abilities and disabilities to express in their chosen art form.
2003
Joined Margret RoadKnight and Mary Jane Carpenter to form 'RoadKnight Caravan' performing uplifting high-energy Gospel Music. Performed at Brisbane Powerhouse, Biennial Festival of Music, Judith Wright Centre . Worked as Support worker for Access Arts Music Instrument making workshop with Moto Niwa in September. Continued performing with The O.K. Chorale, Zimbira and Masala and Gritty Pearls.
2002

Launched new Zimbira CD "Are We There Yet?".
Performed at Woodford Folk Festival with 'Zimbira' and Madding Circus and Gritty Pearls

O.K.Chorale will be performing in April 2002, representing Qld at "GOSAMA" (Annual Bendigo Gospel Festival).
Established 60 Piece Community Choir 'Tongues of Fire'.

2001

Formed "The O.K. Chorale" 15 piece Gospel and Multicultural Choir. Performs at  Weddings, festivals, and restaurants, and at "Soul Food" at King George Square, with Leah Cotterall, and Pearly Black (ex- Madam Bones Brothel).


Currently conducting and directing "THE O.K. CHORALE" gospel choir. (Est. April 2001). Supported Valanga Khoza at BEMAC in April 2001. Performed at the "Hallelujah Logan Unplugged" event July 22nd as part of the QBFM (Qld Biennial Festival of Music).


Current member of Madding Circus, ten piece alternative performance ensemble. Performed at Worldly Women concerts and the revival of "La Bamba" Cabaret at La Boite theatre 2001.
Currently, a member of the Award winning female accapella quartet "Gritty Pearls". Performed at the inaugural accapella festival at the Brisbane Powerhouse May 2001. Also performed at the 2001/02 Woodford Folk festival.


Music Director/singer and sound designer for "Lives and Loves" at the Brisbane Powerhouse in March as part of the Centenary of Federation celebrations. Exploring the personal stories of immigration and migration Using spoken word, songs and movement.

2001
Received Arts Council grant to study African "Part singing" and harmonies in South Africa. Also went to Zimbabwe and Botswana and learned songs and the Kalahari thumb piano "Setinkane".

Member of the Brisbane Chorale/Bulgarian Womens Choir, supporting "The Mara Ensemble" and "Martenitsa" Choir in performing "Homeland", (part of the original work "Sezoni Suite" as music for the acclaimed "Legs on the Wall" during The Brisbane Festival.
2000
Recorded two tracks on "Scattered People" CD launched in 2000 for the
Refugee Claimants Support Centre.


Recorded and released CD "Worldly Women" contributing two solo tracks and collaborating on four tracks along side other great women performers such as Katie Noonan, Leah Cotterall, Barb Fordham, Donna Miller, Gopi McLeod, Barb Dwyer and Erin Murphy.

Lead singer, guitarist and flautist in "Funk Shui" five piece funk/pop/covers band. Featuring Robert Pound and Tavis Ellum from "The Toothfaeries" Performed all over Brisbane and Gold Coast. Also formed offshoot originals/improvisation band called "Funkissue" with Anthony Aggs from "Afro-Dizzy-Act".
1998

Formed new band "Bhakti" (Indian Folk/spiritual fusion Music) Performed at BEMAC, Valley Mall, Yoga For Daily Life Centre, The Zoo, QPAC Auditorium, Brisbane's Town Hall, Bangalow Hall, Murwillumbah Civic Centre, 4ZZZ Market Day, Big Day Out, Launched independent CD "Jay Asu Babu" in 2000. (Still currently performing)

Joined Klezmer band "Kosher Klassics" singing Yiddish Folk music and Jewish songs with 5 piece band. Changed name to Klezmer Shmezmer and became duo/ trio and performed at Woodford, Valley Chinese New Year celebrations, and as part of the "Worldly Women" set. (Still currently performing)

Member of the three piece world music ensemble "Zing" and all female world music ensemble "The Goddess Must be Crazy" and recorded a track on 4EB's compilation album "Masala Music"

1997

Soloist at Brisbane Biennial Festival of Music's "Gospel in the Symphony." Shared the stage with Venetta Fields.

Founding member of "3 Women", performing gentle African style music with lush vocals and unusual instruments. Venues include, Mt Tambourine Folk Club, The Winter Solstice Festival, Griffith University "Blue Stocking Week" celebrations, The Zoo nightclub.

Front woman, dancer, singer and flautist for African inspired dance band "Zimbira". Gigs include The Zoo, Rick's Café, Boundary street festival, and BEMAC's World music café. Support act for Saleif Keita, Winter Solstice Festival and Woodford Folk Festival, Stradbroke Island Lantern Festival, Shamrock Hotel, Griffith University O' Week, Valley Mall Markets, Souths Leagues Club, and a list to numerous to mention in this space. (Still currently performing.)

Member/soloist of eclectic choir "Qwired". Performed at the Winter Solstice Festival, The Healer, La Boite Theatre, Jacaranda Festival, and Convention Centre with "Toni Nation". Released independent CD "Things Go Round" in 2000.

 

1991-97
Performed as Jazz/Blues soloist and duo with guitarists at Aroma's cafes from Broadbeach to the Sunshine Coast. Venues included Jamesons cabaret "The Parlour", The Fringe Club, Camp Hill Fun Club, "Songs for Soul-o- ists" at Rics Café. (Prior to 1997 initiated several projects under the name "Yani" forming solos duos, trios and up to 10 piece" fusion" groups incorporating Jazz, Blues, Funk and Indian/African inspired creations. 
1995-7

Worked in Comedy roving trio, "The Flying Ezmereldas" performing in many and varied venues including Super League and other football matches as well as festivals, carnivals, regularly at Channel 7's "Picnic in the Park", Warana festivals, The Ekka, The Caboolture Show, Park Road's "Vivace" Festival. Also at theme Parks such as "Dream World "and Wet 'n Wild. Also at O' week celebrations of university of Qld, Griffith Uni, QUT, and QCA. Major Hotels include The Hilton, Sheraton, Mercure and the list goes on.

Founding and original member of "The Flannelettes" all star accapella group. First formed during "Ladies sing the Blues" at the Story Bridge Hotel. Formed "The Jazz Angels", with Alison St Ledger, Jamie Clark, and John Bone.

Also became singer/dancer/flautist for Bosnian/Macedonian dance band "Urban Dervish". Performed at Malls, festivals, BEMAC events and the Migrant Resource Centre.

Formed girl duo Sinking Surfies, performed regularly at Pubs and clubs.

1995-7
Worked as first a support worker then main artist (musical) for Access Arts inc. The job involved facilitating and assisting people with intellectual and physical disabilities (adults) with rhythm, melody, arrangements, playing instruments and performance skills. This culminated in several performances, including the magical"Erratica Cabaret".
1995

Took on a decreased workload to consolidate and write songs, also became musical "gun-for-hire", performing at small venues while still continuing at Aromas cafes.

Worked extensively with Jazz ensemble "Jitterbug Perfume", (Still currently performing) also continued duo work, directing energies into cabaret and dramatic pursuits such as "Venus vs Madonna" cabaret with Kerryanne Farrer and Caroline Dunphy at Boulder Lodge and La Boite theatre. Then joined the "Off the Lounge" cabaret team and worked in different locations around Brisbane.

1994
Joined African/Pop/Reggae band "Arrakis". Singing lead and backing vocals with a range of covers and original music. Toured to Singapore and worked at the Pan Pacific Hotel.
1993-6
Performed in "Women in Voice" II, IV, and VI.
1996
Was accepted in the first intake (and passed) COTAH's Contemporary Music course. Successfully completed subjects including, songwriting, arrangements, scoring (which I did a lot of), live sound production, home and professional studio recording and production, live performance, MIDI and business management (fat lot of good its done me). Throughout the course, continued to do evening and weekend gigs as "Jitterbug Perfume"
1987-92

Formed "Jitterbug Perfume" Jazz ensemble in 1992 with Mike Tame and Andrew Ferrett (eventually replaced by Russell Bayne). Enjoyed great success working in places such as Tattersalls, The Qld Club, The Hilton, Aromas chains, Story Bridge Hotel, Sitting Duck Café, The ZOO, The Bohemian Café, Diva Café, New Farm Deli, Red Chair Café, Café Balzac and Café Lunar.

Formed "Crazy Moon" with Chris Anderson and Andrew Ferrett in 1991, which had a big following around Brisbane, the Gold and Sunshine Coasts.

Formed "Black Crow Blues" Folk/Pop trio with Murray Wall and Chris Anderson in 1989. Residencies followed at the "Lounge Lizard Café" in West Busked for several years around Brisbane. Moved to Rockhampton in 1988 (don't ask me why) and formed first Rock band "Comfortably Numb" and traveled west with the band.

Also in Rockhampton joined "Backyard Theatre Company". Speaking and singing role in the original musical "SUNSPOTS" which I co-wrote the music and played guitar and flute.

Backing vocalist and singer for South African singer "Thami Mlotshwa" Singing in several African languages including Zulu Sotho, Swahili, Shona and Xkosa. Gigged around Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast.

Acted in several plays and musicals including Hair, Godspell, and "Linda Loves Jim" which was written by Brisbane playwright Steven Davis, and of which I won "Best Actress" award in WARANA 1987.
